Jasper is a 15 year old clarinettist from Brentwood, Essex. He attends the Anglo European School where he is in year 10, and the junior department of the Guildhall School of Music and Drama where he is a joint first study instrumentalist, studying clarinet with Derek Hannigan and saxophone with Alastair Penman.
In 2025 Jasper was awarded the Essex Young Musicians' Trust prize as runner up in the under-19s category of the Essex Young Musician of the Year competition. Jasper started learning the clarinet aged 7, achieving a grade 8 distinction (141/150) four years later, and then the ABRSM diploma in clarinet performance with distinction aged 13. Jasper also achieved a distinction in his saxophone grade 8 (141 again!) aged 12 and then a distinction in ARSM saxophone performance aged 14, having been loaned his first saxophone as the first lockdown began in 2020.
Jasper enjoys playing jazz piano as well as jazz saxophone, and has further grade 8s in piano and music theory.
Jasper has recently come to the end of his time with the National Children's Orchestra of Great Britain, where he has been principal clarinet for the past few years. As part of a very select group from the main orchestra he has been privileged to take part in extra chamber events including playing in Downing Street. Jasper is a former leader of the National Children's Concert Band, and plays in the English Schools' Orchestra and National Youth Concert Band, as well as ensembles at Junior Guildhall and in Essex, most notably the Essex Youth Orchestra. Following his audition for the National Youth Orchestra this year, Jasper has been invited to join them on an upcoming course, and hopes for further success as he gets a little older!
As well as music, Jasper is very interested in science and also loves languages and traveling. Jasper is hoping to pursue a professional music career and is honored to have been invited to perform with the orchestra today.
